Moving your files to a new computer

A new computer isn't really yours until everything that mattered on the old one has made the trip over. That's more than the Documents folder, and it's the step people most often underestimate.

What actually needs to move

Pick the transfer method that matches how much you have

The old machine still has a full copy — deal with that

Once everything is confirmed working on the new computer, the old one is still sitting there with a complete copy of everything on its drive. That's the moment to wipe it properly, whatever happens to it next — sold, donated, handed to a relative, or recycled. Skipping that step because the migration went smoothly is how old tax returns and saved passwords end up on a machine you no longer control.

Straight answer

If your files are already synced to a cloud account, most of this is something you can do yourself with no equipment and no appointment — plenty of people do exactly that. Bring both machines in if you want it handled for you, if the old one won't boot, or if you want someone to confirm everything actually made the trip before the original gets wiped.

Common questions

How much will it cost?

No appointment needed — stop in for a quick consultation, and we’ll take a look and quote it up front, in plain English. No surprises. Prefer to call first? Reach us at 941-625-TECH (8324).

What should I bring when I drop off my computer?

Just the device and its power adapter or charger. If the problem involves logging in or specific files, your password helps us get straight to work. Leave the boxes and manuals at home unless they’re part of the issue.

Is my data safe with you?

Your data stays private — we only access what’s needed to complete your repair. Have specific questions about your files? Just ask when you drop off and we’ll walk you through how we handle everything.
