Repair this laptop, or replace it?

Laptops make this decision harder than desktops, because so much is built in. But the calculation is still fairly simple once you know which of three buckets your fault falls into.

The three buckets

The third option people forget

It isn't only repair-or-buy-new. A refurbished business laptop — the ex-corporate Latitudes and ThinkPads built to be serviced — often lands well below a new consumer machine and above it in build quality. We sell them alongside the repair bench, so we can show you the repair quote and the alternative side by side.

Whichever way you go, the data comes with you

If you replace it, your files don't have to stay behind. Moving everything across is a normal part of the job, and it's worth doing properly rather than discovering in a month that something was left on the old drive.

Straight answer

Bring it in and get it diagnosed before you decide anything. A laptop that looks finished is often a drive or a battery, and a laptop that looks fine is sometimes a mainboard. Either way you'll have real numbers instead of a guess, and you're not committed to the repair by asking what it would cost.

Common questions

How much will it cost?

No appointment needed — stop in for a quick consultation, and we’ll take a look and quote it up front, in plain English. No surprises. Prefer to call first? Reach us at 941-625-TECH (8324).

What happens if my computer can’t be fixed?

We tell you straight. After we diagnose it, you get an honest recommendation — sometimes that’s a repair, and sometimes the better answer is putting the money toward a replacement (we sell tech-tested computers too). Either way, you approve everything before any work starts.

Will I lose my photos and files during a repair?

Protecting your files is part of the job. Most repairs never touch your personal files, and if a job carries any risk to your data we’ll tell you before we start so you can decide. Worried about something specific — photos, tax records, family documents? Mention it at drop-off and we’ll take extra care.
