Spilled something on your laptop
What happens in the first few minutes matters more than anything we do later. Corrosion is the real enemy, not the liquid itself, and it starts while the board still has power running through it.
Right now, in this order
- Shut it down — hold the power button. Don't wait for it to close things properly.
- Unplug the charger. If the battery is the removable kind, take it out.
- Turn it upside down like a tent so what's inside runs back out rather than deeper in.
- Leave it off. Every attempt to check whether it still works risks shorting something.
- Get it looked at soon — corrosion progresses over days, not months.
Rice does not work
It's the most repeated advice about spills and it doesn't do the job. Rice pulls moisture from air slowly; it does nothing about liquid already sitting on a board, and it doesn't touch the sugar, salt, or acid that's actually eating the traces. Dust from the rice in the ports doesn't help either.
What the liquid was matters
- Plain water — the best case, if it's off fast enough.
- Coffee, tea, soda, juice — sugar and acid keep working after the liquid dries.
- Salt water or anything alcoholic — the most aggressive, and the most time-sensitive.
Straight answer
This is the one where we won't tell you what it'll take until we've opened it, because nobody honestly can — spills range from a keyboard swap to a board that's gone. What we will do is look, tell you plainly what we find, and be straight about whether it's worth it. If your files are the priority, say so when you drop it off and we'll treat that as the goal.

Common questions
Is my data safe with you?
Your data stays private — we only access what’s needed to complete your repair. Have specific questions about your files? Just ask when you drop off and we’ll walk you through how we handle everything.
What happens if my computer can’t be fixed?
We tell you straight. After we diagnose it, you get an honest recommendation — sometimes that’s a repair, and sometimes the better answer is putting the money toward a replacement (we sell tech-tested computers too). Either way, you approve everything before any work starts.
Will I lose my photos and files during a repair?
Protecting your files is part of the job. Most repairs never touch your personal files, and if a job carries any risk to your data we’ll tell you before we start so you can decide. Worried about something specific — photos, tax records, family documents? Mention it at drop-off and we’ll take extra care.
