What data recovery actually depends on
Nobody can honestly quote data recovery sight unseen, and anyone who does is guessing. What we can do is explain what the job depends on, so you know what we're looking at when we look at it.
Logical or physical — the biggest fork
- Logical: the drive works, but the files are deleted, the partition is damaged, or the system won't boot. The hardware is intact. This is the more hopeful case.
- Physical: the drive itself has failed — it doesn't spin, it clicks, it isn't detected. The hardware has to be dealt with before any file can be read.
What else changes the picture
- Hard drive or SSD — they fail differently, and an SSD that has lost its controller is a harder problem than a hard drive with bad sectors.
- Whether it's encrypted — BitLocker or FileVault without the key is a wall, not a delay.
- How much has been written since — every new file risks overwriting what you're trying to get back.
- Whether recovery software has already been run on it, which can make things worse.
- How much you actually need — the whole drive, or one folder of photos.
Stop using the drive
This is the one piece of advice that matters more than any other. Every time a failing drive spins up, it risks doing more damage, and every file written to it risks overwriting what you want back. Power it down and bring it in — that single decision does more for your odds than anything we can do afterwards.
Straight answer
We won't put a number on it before we've looked, and we won't tell you it's certain — nobody can promise recovery, and a shop that does is selling you something. What we will do is look, tell you what we find, and tell you plainly if it's beyond what we can do here rather than run up a bill on a drive that isn't coming back.

Common questions
Is my data safe with you?
Your data stays private — we only access what’s needed to complete your repair. Have specific questions about your files? Just ask when you drop off and we’ll walk you through how we handle everything.
What happens if my computer can’t be fixed?
We tell you straight. After we diagnose it, you get an honest recommendation — sometimes that’s a repair, and sometimes the better answer is putting the money toward a replacement (we sell tech-tested computers too). Either way, you approve everything before any work starts.
Will I lose my photos and files during a repair?
Protecting your files is part of the job. Most repairs never touch your personal files, and if a job carries any risk to your data we’ll tell you before we start so you can decide. Worried about something specific — photos, tax records, family documents? Mention it at drop-off and we’ll take extra care.
