Lenovo and ThinkPad repair
ThinkPads are among the most repairable laptops made, which is why so many are still working a decade in. IdeaPads and Yogas need a lighter touch. We take all three.
The three lines behave differently
- ThinkPad — built to be serviced, and generally worth putting money into even when they're old.
- IdeaPad — the consumer line; screens, batteries and charging ports are the common jobs.
- Yoga — the convertibles, where the hinge and the touchscreen take the wear.
What comes in
- Keyboards worn through or with keys no longer registering.
- Batteries down to a fraction of their original run time.
- Yoga hinges and touchscreens after a few years of folding.
- Older ThinkPads running spinning drives that deserve an SSD.
- Charging ports, especially the older rectangular Lenovo connectors.
Worth keeping
An older ThinkPad with an SSD and fresh memory will out-work a cheap new laptop for most everyday tasks. If you have one sitting in a cupboard, it's usually worth reviving rather than replacing — bring it in and we'll tell you honestly whether that's true of yours.
Straight answer
We service Lenovo in-shop, like every major brand — we are not a Lenovo authorized provider, and we won't claim to be. If your machine is still under Lenovo's warranty, use that first. And the flip side of ThinkPads being durable is that some are old enough that parts get scarce; we'll check availability before quoting rather than after.
