What computer should I actually buy?

The honest answer depends entirely on what you actually do with a computer, not on what happens to be on sale this week. What follows is a way to think about it, not a specific model — because the right model changes constantly and this page shouldn't.

Start with what you actually do, not what sounds impressive

New, or refurbished business-grade

A new consumer laptop looks appealing sitting on the shelf. A refurbished business machine — the ex-corporate Latitudes and ThinkPads, that category of hardware — is often the more durable option for similar money, because it was built to be serviced rather than replaced on schedule. We sell tested, refurbished business computers alongside the repair bench, so it's worth comparing both before deciding rather than defaulting to whichever is newer.

Two upgrades worth insisting on, whatever you buy

Straight answer

We're not going to name a specific model on a webpage — too much changes too quickly, and “what should I actually buy” is a five-minute conversation, not a static list. Come in, tell us what you'll use it for and roughly what you want to spend, and we'll give you a straight answer, including whether what you already own is worth keeping instead of replacing.
