Chromebook repair
A Chromebook is a genuinely different machine from a Windows laptop or a Mac — simpler hardware, a narrower list of things that actually go wrong, and one extra question worth answering before you spend a dime: how much life Google has left scheduled for it.
What actually goes wrong
- Cracked or black screens — common on machines that get carried in a backpack every day, especially school-issued ones.
- Charging ports worn loose from the same angle, day after day.
- Keyboards with dead, sticky, or double-typing keys.
- Hinges loosening on machines that live open on a lap or a desk.
The check that matters more than the repair
Every Chromebook ships with a Google Auto Update Expiration date, set by the manufacturer, after which it stops getting security and feature updates for good. A Chromebook past that date still turns on and still works — it just isn't being patched anymore, and no repair changes that. We check the date before we quote anything else, because it's the number that actually decides whether a repair is worth doing.
What's simpler here than on other laptops
- No spinning hard drive to fail — Chromebooks have shipped with solid-state storage from the factory for years.
- Most of what you'd miss lives in your Google account, not on the machine, so losing the hardware rarely means losing your files.
- Fewer components inside generally means fewer things that can go wrong at once.
Straight answer
We service Chromebooks in-shop like everything else — we're not an authorized service provider for Google or for the hardware makers that build them (Acer, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Samsung, and others), and we want to be upfront about that. What matters more before you spend anything: ask us to check the machine's Auto Update Expiration date first. It takes a minute, it costs nothing, and it tells you something a new screen or keyboard can't. A Chromebook past its AUE date has stopped receiving security updates permanently, no matter how good the hardware looks, and for a lot of these machines that's the real deciding factor — not the crack you're looking at. We check it before you commit to anything.
Ways we can handle this
This one usually needs hands on the hardware, so the machine does need to reach the bench. Getting it here isn't necessarily your problem to solve, though.
- Walk in. No appointment needed at 2320 S Tamiami Trl, Unit 7, during shop hours.
- Pickup and drop-off — $49. We collect the machine and bring it back, within roughly 10–15 miles. That covers the trip; any repair, setup or training is quoted separately.
- We come to you. On-site visits for home offices, small-business setups, and anything that shouldn’t be unplugged.
- Remote. A live screen-share while you watch everything we do — the computer never leaves your desk.

We tell you straight. After we diagnose it, you get an honest recommendation — sometimes that’s a repair, and sometimes the better answer is putting the money toward a replacement (we sell tech-tested computers too). Either way, you approve everything before any work starts.
